About Christchurch/Mt Cook/Queenstown

Day One

Start the day with being picked up from your accommodation at an agreed time — we suggest between 8:00–8:30 am. It will take approximately 6 hours with stops to reach Mt Cook.

Travel down to Geraldine for our first stop and visit the Geraldine Cheese Shop — a great opportunity to purchase your favourite cheese or try something new. Just across the road is Barker’s Foodstore and Eatery, famous for its range of drinks, sauces, and condiments.

Then off to Fairlie, home of the famous Fairlie Bakehouse. So many to choose from, including the popular salmon or pork belly pie.

We can include a stop at the Alpaca Farm if you would like to get up close and have a few photos.

Next stop is Burke’s Pass and a quick visit to the Three Creeks Store.

From there we travel to beautiful Lake Tekapo. Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd — Tekapo’s famous stone church. The area offers beautiful scenery all around and is an excellent spot for photos.

There are hot pools in Tekapo and a visit there can be arranged. Perhaps you’d like to take a helicopter or plane flight and see the mountains and glaciers from above.

From Tekapo it’s about a 40-minute drive to Lake Pukaki, where on a fine day you will get your first look at Mt Cook.

On the way, we can stop at NZ Alpine Lavender (seasonal: November–March).

Then up the Mt Cook Highway to the Mt Cook Village — our destination for the night.

At night, there is an opportunity to visit the observatory for a view of the night sky. This may need to be booked well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Day Two

You might like to start Day Two with a boat trip to the Tasman Glacier or take a stroll on the Hooker Valley Track.

Stop at the salmon farm and shop — either along Mt Cook Highway or just outside of Twizel.

Just north of Omarama are the Clay Cliffs. If you would like to see these, we can take a small detour.

Omarama is famous for gliding and many world records have been set here.

A beautiful scenic drive takes us up the Lindis Pass, with a quick stop at the lookout at the top. Then down the other side through Tarras and on to Cromwell, admiring the views along Lake Dunstan on the way.

Cromwell is the stone fruit capital of NZ — the fruit is seasonal and in abundant supply over the summer months.

From Cromwell, we take a drive through the spectacular Kawarau Gorge. We can stop at the old gold mining fields.

Then off through the Gibbston Valley — a great wine region. A stop at one of the local wineries can be arranged.

Finally, we arrive in Queenstown and drop you at your accommodation — sadly marking the end of our trip.

The Tasman Glacier trip may need to be booked well in advance to avoid the disappointment of missing out.

This tour can easily be extended to 3 days if you would prefer. This will allow more time at each place and more options around Mt Cook.

We do not include your accommodation cost as everyone has different preferences on where they would like to stay. However, we can assist with arranging accommodation for your trip.

We also do not include the price for admission into attractions like the Alpaca farm or hot pools, or for helicopter, plane flights, or boat trips. But again, we can arrange these for you.
