About Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo is a breathtaking destination in the heart of New Zealand’s South Island.
Known for its stunning turquoise waters and home to the Church of the Good Shepherd, constructed in 1935, and the Sheepdog Memorial Statue.
Your day begins with being picked up from your accommodation at an agreed time.
We head south through Ashburton, turning off State Highway 1 at Rangitata and into Geraldine. Then through to Fairlie, turning right and heading into the Mackenzie Country and Lake Tekapo.
Places of interest and things to do on your tour:
In Geraldine, visit the cheese factory, sample and purchase your favorites or try something new. Just across the road is Barkers, famous for its drinks, sauces, and condiments.
Stop at the top of the hill 8 km before Fairlie, taking in the view and get some photos.
Visit the famous Fairlie Bakehouse and maybe try one of their pies; the smoked salmon or pork belly being amongst the most popular.
There is an opportunity to visit the local Alpaca farm for more photos if you would like.
Off to Burke’s Pass and a stop at the Three Creeks Store. Check out the Macrocarpa Furniture that the owner, Dave, makes as well as the collection of memorabilia he has around his unique property.
